Tomorrow is April 9th, 2020 and was scheduled to be the opening round of the Masters Golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia. The Masters has now been postponed to November. Hopefully Augusta will be warm and sunny come November.
Golf has plenty of tradition. There are 4 major golf tournaments each year, The Masters, the U.S. Open, the British Open (The Open) and the PGA Championship; all great tournaments. But the Masters is special. All who witnessed the 2019 Masters will remember that Tiger Woods came away the winner for the 5th time, winning by one stroke over Dustin Johnson, Brooks Kopeka and Xander Schauffle. Woods was 43, and the 2nd oldest winner in Masters history. Not everyone will remember who won the British Open or the PGA or the U.S. Open last year (I barely remember who won the U.S. Open, and I was there!). But most golf fans who are more than just casual, will remember Tiger’s victory. The win capped an amazing comeback by one of the sport’s greatest stars after many physical and personal hurdles since his last Masters win in 2005.
Sheesh, this Corona Virus really has done a job on all of the sports fans of the world; So many cancelled games and events. A world interrupted.
I just am hoping that CBS Sports does the easy thing and the right thing and re-broadcasts the 2019 Masters this weekend. Even though we will know the ending, it doesn’t get much better.
I look forward to attending the Masters some year in the not-too distant future. It is on my list. Last summer I was able to go to the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach; Iconic.
Ok. I am tuning in, and if you do make sure you hang around to the end. From what I remember, it is a Masters to remember.
